OPINION ESSAY

A study by World Outreach Center in America reported that since 1998, there are at least 12112 changes in an organization top position worldwide in which 90% of it resulted in better productivity. Recently in Universiti Teknologi Petronas, Dr. Mahathir Mohamad has handed his position to Datuk Seri Rosmah Mansor as the new chancellor. New changes will bring new spirit, a new persona and a new hope.
Firstly, changes will lead to better things because of a new spirit. This is mainly because of students will be determined to impress the new chancellor. New chancellor is always generous for the first few months, who knows what the students may get? People will also work together to achieve chancellor’s vision. Study shows that people react to changes, whether is positive or not. But seeing that people accept Datuk Seri Rosmah as the new chancellor, a positive change will make people become more cooperative.
Next, changes will lead to better things because of a new persona. Datuk Seri Rosmah Mansor is touted as a very friendly person. This will make UTP much more likeable and more renown to other people outside. In return, more people will want to enter UTP because of a good reputation. It has shown that for something that we like, we will be more open towards it.
Lastly, changes will lead to better things as we have a new hope. Students of UTP who had been long fighting against the injustice of the education policy, can now hope for a new education policy. One of the demands is that the three format semester that is currently in UTP to be change back to two semester format because of compactness. For example, Foundation studies have an average of 17 credit hours where the maximum amount of credit hours is only 16.
For conclusion, transformation will make way to a world of difference in UTP. It is hope that changes of Chancellor will provide a better holistic improvement in every aspect of UTP because of a new spirit, a new persona and a new hope.
