ILLITERACY AMONG CHILDREN AROUND THE GLOBE

                   Illiteracy may have become a current ‘’buzz word’’ around the world and it means the condition of being unable to read or write. According to UNESCO(United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), 98 percent of all non-illiterates live in developing countries. This shows that the quality of life is very important in order to evade from illiteracy especially for the children who will be the leaders in the future. This scenario happened due to the poverty and subsequent lack of access to reading and writing materials, war and laziness.

                The main cause of why this issue happened is the poverty and subsequent lack of access to reading and writing materials. We knew that a few nations such like African’s and Somalia’s citizen have to suffer poverty condition in their daily life. Besides, the government could not contribute any books or either pencils to their citizens which actually give a big side effect to the citizens especially the children. The children would feel like that they do not need to learn and practice themselves towards success and thus they may lead to illiteracy.

                Furthermore, war also may cause this problem to happen. This condition make the children feel fears and non-safety to go to school. Besides, the citizens always think that they need to win the war in order to achieve peace for their nations. So, they use the children as military strength and help them to win it. If the children have to fight for their nations, they would not have much time to study and it is impossible for them to have a bright future.

                Then, the children nowadays are very lazy. They just want to have fun with their friends, playing around and do not want to study throughout their childhood time. They do not have any efforts to take any books and read it. They also do not want to think about their futures. This had caused them to suffer illiteracy.

                In conclusion, there are a lot of causes and effects of illiteracy. Every child has to help themselves if they really want to achieve success. So, let us try to help between each other in order to decrease the percentage of illiteracy among children around the world. Remember! Children is the planner of the future.
