Illiteracy among Children around the Globe
A research made by the Global
Literacy Center in 2011 shows that the illiteracy among children around the
globe is 34% out of 6 billion global populations. Illiteracy is defined as the
inability to read, to write or to comprehend any kind of literature based on
Collins Cobuild Dictionary Version 6. The following paragraph will elaborate on
causes, effects and how to overcome the illiteracy among children around the
globe.
The causes of
children facing illiteracy problem are mainly because they lack education.
Children who live in the remote areas usually are the ones who are affected the
most as there are low number of schools in this rural areas and if there is
any, it is very far from their residence, making travelling from home to school
a very daunting prospect Thus, because of lack of means of transportation and
also money, the parents do not send their children to school because it is too
hard for them. It’s not their fault; after all, they live a hard life.
The effects of children facing
illiteracy problem sadly can be looked at the country itself. It is a cycle,
whether we want to admit it or not, illiteracy problem will continue to be a
problem as long as there is no one to break the cycle, in my point of view, via
education. So if the family did not want to break the cycle itself, illiteracy
will continue to plague to family. Imagine if there are around 30 families in a
community that are facing illiteracy problem, the community will be
unfortunately, a very bad community and what can we expect when new generations
take over from the old ones?
Next, to overcome the illiteracy that
plague children around the globe, the countries that do not have this problem,
should be more alert, more willing to help the not so fortunate countries. Send
teachers to this kind of places so that the people know the importance of
literacy, how it can improve their life. By giving them awareness, they
themselves who will change their fate.
To conclude, illiteracy face children
around the globe where education is scarce. In return, the country will be
affected and it can be overcome by asking for other countries help to send
teachers to this places. It is hope that, by helping the not so fortunate
children, they can give themselves a better life.
